About the accommodation

STF Tarrekaise lies embedded in luxuriant vegetation by the northern shore of Tarraure. The mountain cabin is on the Padjelantaleden hiking trail between Kvikkjokk and Staloluokta. The view from the cabin across the double peak of Staikas Mountain, on the two sides of a dazzling glacier, is striking.

This mountain cabin accepts payment by card but also bring some cash with you on your hike. Telecommunications do not always work in the mountains.

Take a nice cooling dip when you arrive. There is a bathing spot in Tarraure, where the mountains reflect beautifully in the water.

Above the mountain cabin lies the small mountain plateau Hilldo, with its spectacular view over the Tarra Valley – a good, secluded place for relaxation and meditation. For those who want to feel a little of a sense of history, there is the old Tarra River cabin five kilometres away along the trail to Vaimok. The cabin, from 1887, is today STF’s oldest building and an excellent outing destination.

The Tarra Valley has a rich flora with the Northern Wolfsbane, Globe-flower, Alpine Lady-Fern and Moor-king. And the area has true bird life with, among others, grouse, black grouse, tufted duck and the Long-tailed Skua. Walk quietly along the trail and with a little luck, you can come in close contact with the large elk grazing in the lush birch forest.

This is how it works in a mountain cabin
Our mountain cabins offer a simple and authentic stay in multi-bedded rooms with self catering. The rooms are different sizes with bunk beds and usually heated by gas stoves. On site you will be greeted by a cabin manager. As a guest you chop wood, fetch water from the stream or lake, wash up and clean up after youself.

Travel options
STF Tarrekaise is located about 23 km west of Kvikkjokk and is the second cabin on the Padjelantaleden trail that goes all the way to Ritsem. STF Tarrekaise is also a good place to stay overnight when hiking the Nordkalottleden trail to/from STF Vaimok.

In summer, you can only reach the start of the trail by taking a boat on Tarraälven. The hiking distance is around 20 km.
