STF Fredriksborg Hotel

Fredriksborg Hotel stands proudly above the Oxdjupet fairway with panoramic views of the sea and the surrounding islands. The hotel consists of several buildings framing the courtyard, embraced by lush greenery.

It was constructed in 1751 as housing for soldiers and officers, and original details such as exposed ceiling beams, solid wooden floors and thick walls remain to this day. Next to the hotel rises Fredriksborgs fortress, one of the archipelago’s most impressive 18th-century defence facilities. Wander between cannon platforms, viewing ramps, stone walls and pathways that tell the story of a time when the fairway below was a strategically important passage to Stockholm.

Outside the gates, smaller paths lead down to the water, along rocky shores and through pine forests. It’s easy to find your own spot for a break, a picnic or an evening swim. There are plenty of sheltered bays with barbecue and swimming areas, running tracks, hiking trails and cycling paths. Hike in an archipelago landscape via “Myttingelinjen” up towards Skäggaudd, or perhaps across to Rindö towards Vaxholm, where boats can take you further out into the archipelago to explore one of the beautiful islands. Or why not take a boat into Stockholm for a day trip. The area around Fredriksborg is rich in nature and relatively uncrowded.

When you return to the hotel, carefully prepared food with an archipelago touch awaits. In the restaurant in the main building, seasonal ingredients and clean flavours are in focus, served in a relaxed and welcoming setting. On warm evenings, the terrace is a popular spot overlooking the fairway.
