STF Mountain stations

STF’s mountain stations are the starting point for great mountain experiences. A mountain station is a comfortable mix of a mountain hotel, hostel and guesthouse. Here, you choose your own level of comfort and price.

What all mountain stations have in common is that they are located in unique places in our beautiful mountain landscape, often close to nature reserves and national parks. All are situated at the start of or along a hiking or ski trail. That’s why a mountain station is the natural base for your mountain experience or the starting point for your trip, both in winter and summer.

You make your own bed using your own sheets or rent them on site. Cleaning and meals in the restaurant can be added to your stay. If you prefer to cook your own food, there are guest kitchens where you share space – and perhaps the day’s experiences – with other guests. In most cases, our mountain stations also offer a shop and equipment rental.

Accomodation and services

At the mountain stations, you can stay in anything from simple rooms with bunk beds to hotel-standard rooms with a shower and toilet. The room standards offered vary between the stations.

In case of bad weather, we try to arrange emergency sleeping spots on the floor when the facility is fully booked for those who do not have a tent. However, even our mattresses sometimes run out. Therefore, we always recommend booking your stay in advance at our mountain stations.

The reception staff and activity staff can assist you with tips for your day trips. In the common rooms, you can cozy up by the fire, read, socialize, and discuss plans for the next day’s adventure.

Food and restaurants

All mountain stations have self-catering facilities for those who prefer to prepare their own meals. There is a restaurant, with full service, where you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks throughout the day at all mountain stations, except for Blåhammaren and Ritsem.

Pets

Rooms for guests with pets are available at most facilities, but please note that there is only a limited number of pet-friendly rooms, so it’s important to book these in advance. When booking online, you can see whether these specific rooms are available. If no pet-friendly rooms are available, please try another date or a different accommodation. Read our guide about hiking with a dog.

Shops

All mountain stations have shops of varying sizes where provisions, sports equipment, souvenirs, and more are sold. The range of products varies between different facilities.

Sports equipment rental

The larger mountain stations offer rentals of sports equipment, rain gear, backpacks, tents, skis, safety equipment, and more. Several of the facilities also provide guided tours and other activities that guests can sign up for. Visit each mountain stations website for more information and booking.

Season, prices and opening hours

The opening hours of the mountain stations vary between different areas and stations. At most of our mountain stations, the winter season runs from the end of February to the end of April or early May. The summer season typically spans from midsummer to mid or late September. Some stations are also open over New Year’s or year-round. You can find more information about specific opening hours on each accommodation’s page on our website.

Prices vary between stations and depending on the time of year. As an STF member, you always get a discounted rate. At several stations, STF members also receive discounts on certain meals and some products in the shop and sports rentals. Day visitors and campers are subject to service fees.

Boats in the mountains

The mountain world is vast, and depending on how you plan your adventure, you may come across large lakes and waterways. On the page about boats in the mountains, you will find timetables, contact information, and other details.
