Walking between accommodations
When you walk between accommodations, you get the chance to experience even more. It becomes a comfortable adventure, since you avoid carrying tent gear and can walk with a lighter step during the day. There is a wealth of options for anyone who likes to spend the night under a roof.
If you want to do day hikes between accommodations, there are suitable trails all over the country. On some stretches you need to bring food and water, and at some accommodations you need your own sheets. Otherwise you can trim the packing list and fill your rucksack with just the essentials. It is a convenient way to spend time with your companions in wonderful surroundings. Here you can read about a selection of walks that suit you if you have left the tent at home. Have a look and see whether any of the suggestions appeal to you!

Walk from island to island in the Stockholm archipelago
Step aboard the Waxholm boat and try one of our various island-hopping packages, which let you discover the archipelago on foot and by boat, at different paces and with different set-ups. Along the way you walk parts of the Stockholm Archipelago Trail, a coastal trail that crosses several islands and offers varied walking close to the sea. Depending on the package you choose, the walk covers different islands and stages. In the evenings there is the chance for archipelago dinners, a sauna or time to yourself at the accommodation. You stay overnight at STF’s accommodations along the way, close to both trails and transport links.

Enchanted forest and steep cliffs on the Omberg Signature trail
Personal and authentic accommodations await along the Omberg Signature trail in Östergötland. You walk through cultural landscapes, deep forests and past magnificent viewpoints such as Hjässan – the highest point of Omberg. You can swim on sandy beaches, explore Omberg’s dramatic Ecopark and admire the area’s wise old giant oaks. After each day’s walk you sleep soundly at a hostel.

Walking with a touch of luxury on the Österlen Signature trail
Walking the Österlen Signature trail is a pure pleasure for anyone who loves the sea. It is easy to treat yourself to a little luxury as you explore. The scenery is varied and shaped by the coast. Woodland, heather moors and meadows are edged with silky-soft sandy beaches. Along the way you will find hotels where lovely food and cultural experiences await. In the evenings you can relax with a glass of wine at your personal accommodation.

Cultural walking along the Öland Signature trail
If you want to experience both nature and culture, the Öland Signature trail could be the right place for you. Öland is dense with studios, and here you can see crafts and design created locally. During the walk you can enjoy the stark coastal landscape, swim, see the unique flora and fauna of the Stora Alvaret, and hear the leaves rustling in the woods. You often carry the water and drinks you need for the day, so it’s worth preparing a nice picnic.

Great nature experiences among the mountain cabins
If you have fallen in love with the mountains, you can walk between STF’s mountain cabins. In the cabins, part of the sense of freedom comes from cooking your own food, fetching water and lighting the stove yourself. Cabin-to-cabin walks are perfect for anyone longing for a simpler existence and good company among magnificent mountains.
One lovely option is to walk the Vålådalsfyrkanten, which takes you through wilderness and old-growth forest, across mires, flower meadows and bare mountain. You start and finish your walk at Vålådalen mountain station. Along the way you spend the night in STF’s mountain cabins, waiting at the end of each day’s stage.
