The road Handöl-Storulvån is closed at night from 22:00-08:00 (not during day time).

Between November 1 and April 15, the road between Handöl and Storulvån is closed at night from 22:00 to 08:00. The road may also be closed during the day in case of bad weather. For more information, visit: Trafikverket (opens in new tab).

Staying in a mountain lodge has no comparison! Neither a hotel nor a cabin – we are something unique in between. Accommodation in the heart of the mountains where no other civilization exists.

Simple, rustic rooms where you can choose yourself the level of comfort you want. Do you want the best possible service or the lowest possible price? Whatever you choose, you also have access to self catering facilities, drying room, washing machine and common room.

In Storulvån’s restaurant, the taste sensation is enhanced by the cosy atmosphere and the view over the beautiful mountains. With our new south facing sun-deck, the restaurant takes you one step closer to the mountains. We think that high-quality and carefully cooked food is part of the experience. Therefore we will put a lot of time and joy in the cooking process. We are proud to use locally and ecologically produced ingredients as far as possible.

The shop at Storulvån provides everything you need for mountain exploration – tasty food, maps, equipment, and clothes from leading suppliers.

Furthermore, you can hire everything you need for your winter experience and this section is open from morning until late afternoon. We have a wide range of goods, perfect for both the beginner and experienced practitioner.

PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Getting to STF Storulvån Mountain Station is easy and climate-friendly. Take an SJ train to either Duved or Enafors, and then a connecting transfer with Wänseth Buss/Topptaxi all the way to Storulvån. For the timetable, see: www.wansethbuss.se/tidtabell. The transfer runs on a set schedule and connects with selected train arrivals and departures. You can also book a private transfer at other times if desired.

Snälltåget offers direct service from southern Sweden to Enafors twice a week from week 9 until Easter, and again during July–September. A connecting transfer to and from Storulvån is included in the ticket. You can purchase the entire journey including the transfer to and from Storulvån.

BY CAR
Please note: Between February 1 and April 15, the road between Handöl and Storulvån is closed at night between 22:00 and 08:00. It may also close during the day in poor weather conditions.

Storulvån is located 17 km from highway E14. Travel time is approximately 2 hours from Östersund, 1 hour from Åre, and 1.5 hours from Trondheim. From E14 in Enafors, follow the signs to Storulvån. The final 8 km runs along the edge of the bare mountain plateau on an asphalt road, offering magnificent views of the Jämtland mountains.

You can park your car here for the duration of your mountain trip. Payment is made via Swish or card, and parking is free if you’re staying overnight at Storulvån. EV charging facilities are available on-site.

FLIGHTS
Åre/Östersund Airport (located on Frösön) is about 2 hours away by car or train. Trondheim/Værnes Airport is around 1.5 hours away and also accessible by train. Air travel generally has high climate emissions per kilometer – we recommend train and bus as the primary travel options whenever possible.
