The area features high peaks, Abisko National Park and Sweden’s most iconic mountain silhouette – Lapporten. Above the tree line, the landscape is varied, with wide open plains, lake systems, rushing streams and towering mountains. Lush alpine hills and open heaths give way to the rugged terrain of the high mountains and snow-covered summits.
The Kebnekaise massif
The Kebnekaise massif is a high alpine and rugged landscape with glaciers, dramatic rock formations and Sweden’s highest peak. A visit to Tarfala Valley is a powerful experience, surrounded by glaciers and high mountain peaks, where you can also stay overnight at STF Tarfala Mountain Cabin. This is also home to Sweden’s most studied glacier, Storglaciären. If you want to climb Sweden’s highest mountain, you can do so either with a guide or on your own.
