Accommodation and booking

How do I book?

Our phone hours vary but we are open daily all year round.

What types of accommodation are there at STF Abisko Turiststation?
We have three types of accommodation: Hotel rooms in the main building. Hostel rooms with self-catering in Keron Hostel and Cabins.

In the hotel there are both double and single rooms with en suite showers and toilets. Bedding, cleaning and breakfast are included in the price.

In our self-catering Keron hostel we have 4-bed rooms (you can book a room even if you are not 4 people). Showers, toilets, and a sauna are in corridor. Upstairs is a fully equipped, shared kitchen.

Lower budget multi-bed rooms are also available.

The cabins have a basic kitchen, shower and toilet. The kitchen, a dining area and a large” family ”room are on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms.

What are my benefits as a member of STF?
In addition to having a SEK 100 discount per night on accommodation, you also get membership discounts on our own guided tours and tickets to the chairlift. We also have different membership offers in our shop, so check them out during your stay! What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in 15:00 at the earliest; check-out by 10:00

Are there blankets and pillows in rooms?
There are both quilts and pillows in all rooms. All you need to bring is a sleeping sheet or sleeping bag. You can also rent linen and towels if you do not want to bring your own.

Do I need to pre-book a room?
If you want to be sure to get the type of room you want, you should book in advance.

Do I have to share a room?
This depends on the type of room you book. If you want to be sure to have your own room (if you don't want to share), we recommend that you book in advance.

Can I borrow a crib?
Yes, we can supply both cribs and bedding. Please make a request for one when you book, so we can check availability.

Is there a drying room?
In the hotel, there are drying rooms in each wing. Keron hostel has two drying rooms on the ground floor.

When is STF Abisko Turiststation open?
The station is open all year round, but with limited service during May, October and part of November. If you plan to arrive during one of these months, please contact us for more information.

Can I put up a tent in the area?
Yes, there's a camping area where you can put up your tent.

STF members pay only 115 SEK / adult and 58 SEK / child per night. Non-members pay 215 SEK / adult and 108 SEK / child and night. Fees are payable at reception in the main building.

Aurora Sky Station

Do I need to pre-book my visit to Aurora Sky Station?

If you intend to visit Aurora Sky Station during the Northern Lights season September, Late November-March, we recommend that you book well in advance as there are only a limited number of seats available each evening for Exclusive Dinners and Night Visits.

Do I need to wear warm clothes for my visit to Aurora Sky Station?
During the Northern Lights season Late November-March, a warm overall and warm boot are included in the Exclusive Dinner / Night Visit prices, but we recommend that you bring warm clothes to wear during your stay. It's always better to be a bit too warm and be able to take off a layer of clothes, than to miss being able to see the northern lights because you get so cold that you can't stand outside any longer.

How long does it take to get to Aurora Sky Station using the chairlift?
It takes 20-40 minutes, depending on how many people get on or off whilst you are on the chairlift.

Can I take my dog on the chairlift?
It's OK to have your dog with you if you feel safe to have the dog in an open chairlift, sitting beside you or on your lap. Keep in mind that dogs must always be on a leash in the National Park and that you are not allowed to bring your dog to Aurora Sky Station.

Can I pay by card at Aurora Sky Station?
Yes, you can pay by card both at Aurora Sky Station and when you buy your ticket at the paypoint in the valley station.

Reception, shop and rentals

When is reception open (manned)?
During high season we are open 24 hours each day. For full details of opening hours call reception at +46 980-40200.

Can I pay by card?
You can pay using Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard or Amex at all STF mountain & tourist-stations in Lapland. Currently we don’t accept Diners.

I'll arrive late, how do I get my key?
No problem, we put your key in an envelope with your name on it at reception. If you arrive after 17:00 during low season you'll find your key in a black mailbox outside the main entrance.

What can I buy in our shop?
In the shop” Fjällboden” there is a wide and varied range of food – both fresh and dry products. The shop also stocks items for various kinds of outdoor activities as well as clothes, both for outdoor and indoor use.

You can find everything you need for a trip in the mountains, souvenirs and other items. We have maps, mosquito repellents, mosquito hats, gas and fuel for outdoor cooking.

What type of equipment can I rent at the shop?
In our rental selection you can find everything you need for a mountain trip: snow shoes, tour skis, boots and hiking sticks, hiking boots, field kitchens, tents, sleeping bags, etc.

Can I pre-order my equipment?
Of course! If you want to book equipment, just fill in details in our booking form and mail it to the shop at butik.abisko@stfturist.se

Can I rent equipment in Abisko and return it elsewhere?
You can return items of equipment that you've rented at Nikkaluokta. There's an additional charge of 2 days rental plus a fee to return items to Abisko by bus (approx. 200 SEK).

Food and beverages

What does the breakfast buffet consist of?
Our KRAV-labeled breakfast buffet contains a variety of good things like, yogurt, culture-soured milk (Swedish alternative to yoghurt), porridge, various cereals, homemade bread, several kinds of sandwich spreads and fillings, eggs, juices, coffee and tea.

What is included in a lunch package?
For lunch you [can] make your own sandwiches and take other items such as fruit, “jägarsnus”  (raisins, peanuts and chocolate), cookies, cakes, chocolate bars and beverages. If you have your own thermos, you can also choose between different soups, coffee, tea and drinking chocolate.

Is there a restaurant?
At STF Abisko Turiststation you will find Restaurant Kungsleden that offers a three-course dinner every evening during high season.

Do I need to order or book a table in advance?
We would be pleased if you book your dinner in advance, preferably before 15.00 on the same day.

Is there a children's menu?
The restaurant has a children-friendly option on the a la carte menu. You can also get child-sized portions at half price.

Are there highchairs?
The restaurant has several highchairs available

Can I cook my own food?
There are two well-equipped, self-catering kitchens in the Keron hostel where you can cook your own food. There is also a refrigerator in which you can store food and a smaller freezer where you can keep frozen food. Please mark all items with your room number and departure date.

Arrival

How do I get to the station from the train?
Book your train ticket to Abisko Turiststation. It's the second stop in Abisko if you're travelling from the South (first you reach Abisko Östra. When you get off the train, go under the railroad, then over the freeway and uphill, to reach us.

Other services

Can I store luggage at STF Abisko Turiststation?
Yes, luggage can be stored, free of charge, in our locked luggage room. Please make sure that the luggage you want to store is clearly marked with name, phone number and estimated pickup date. Labels are available in reception.

Can I receive letters and packages at STF Abisko Turiststation?
Yes, for a small fee, you can send or have both letters and packages sent here but you need to contact reception in advance. Letters can be picked up at reception; packages at “Godisfabrikken” Supermarket in the village Abisko Östra. If you have packages sent to the supermarket, please note that they hold items for two weeks only. You have to pick up all packages in person.

Can I bring my dog to Abisko?
Yes, it's OK to bring dogs.

A number of rooms in our self-catering Keron hostel, as well as in some of the cabins are allocated for this purpose. If you bring a dog, we recommend that you pre-book accommodation, as we have a limited number of suitable rooms and cabins in which dogs are allowed.

Can I have my dog in public areas?
Sorry – No, since some of our guests may be allergic. In the Keron hostel dogs are allowed only in the downstairs areas, so please always use the lower entrance.

Do you have WiFi?
We have free Wi-Fi in public areas in the main building. We also have laptops for hire in case you need a computer (if you don’t have your own computer with you).

Where can I park?
We have two parking spaces at Naturum 50 meters from the main entrance where our guests park free of charge. There is also parking at the train station, which we recommend to those who do not have accommodation at STF Abisko Turiststation.

Do you have a caravan campsite?
STF Abisko Turiststation is situated in a national park in which caravan camping is not permitted. The nearest caravan campsite is located in Björkliden10 kilometers from Abisko.

Along the trail

How far is it between cabins (on the trail)?
As a rule, the distance between cabins is10-20 km, some a little shorter and some a little longer. Abisko – Abiskojaure15 km, Abiskojaure – Alesjaure 20 km, Alesjaure – Tjäktja 13 km, Tjäktja – Sälka 12 km, Sälka – Singi 12 km, Singi – Kebnekaise 14 km and between Kebnekaise and Nikkaluokta it is 19 km.

Can I buy maps of the area?
In the “Fjällboden” shop you can buy maps, supplies and other equipment. Map BD6 covers the  Abisko-Nikkaluokta area.

There are also several great apps that give you access to a mountain map on your mobile. Take a look at the apps “STF i Fjällen” and “Norrbotten Outdoor Map“.

What about cellular coverage?
Most Swedish telecom operators have full coverage in Abisko and also at several locations between Abisko and Abiskojaure. Coverage is non-existent at some places between Abiskojaure and Kebnekaise. Do not count on always being able to make calls (or have access).

Emergency phones are available in all cabins but may only be used in case of emergency.

Can I pre-book beds in the mountain cabins?
Beds cannot be booked in advance nor are they guaranteed. They are taken up as hikers/skiers come in.

However, if you have paid, you are always guaranteed a roof over your head and a mattress to sleep/rest on and, of course, you have access to all the services that mountain cabins offer.

You can pay your for stay in mountain cabins via our website and receive an online discount on your accommodation.

How is the weather usually in the area?
For a comprehensive and up-to-date weather forecast, we recommend accessing the SMHI website or using a weather forecast app that’s available on your mobile phone. It is important to keep in mind that the weather can change very quickly in the mountains, so pack your backpack for varying weather conditions.

Can I pitch my tent along a trail?
You can put up your tent wherever you want along the trails, except in Abisko National Park. In the National Park there are 3 designated suitable tent sites; at STF Abisko Turiststation; near the bridge over Nissunjokk and near the cabins in Abiskojaure. If you want to pitch your tent close to the mountain cabin and make use of its services, you are obliged to pay a fee, giving you access to an outdoor shower and a self-catering kitchen. You can also take a sauna if it’s in use if there is one!

Can I go fishing in and around Abisko?
There are several fishing waters around Abisko. The shop “Fjällboden” sells fishing licenses and maps of fishing areas. For more information on fishing, see www.lansstyrelsen.se/norrbotten
