Accommodation and booking

How do I book?

Our phone hours vary but we are open daily all year round.

What types of accommodation are there at STF Abisko Turiststation?
We have three types of accommodation: Hotel rooms in the main building. Hostel rooms with self-catering in our youth hostel Keron and Cabins.

In the hotel there are both double and single rooms with en-suite showers and toilets. Bedding, cleaning, and breakfast are included in the price.

In our self-catering hostel we have 4-bed and 6-bed rooms (you can book a room even if you are not 4 people). Showers, toilets, and a sauna are in the corridor. On the top floor you will find a fully equipped, shared kitchen.

Lower budget dorm rooms are also available.

The cabins have a basic kitchen, shower, and toilet. The kitchen, a dining area and a large family room are on the ground floor. Upstairs there are 2 bedrooms.

What are my benefits as a member of STF?

What are check-in and check-out times?
Check-in 15:00 at the earliest; check-out by 10:00

Are there blankets and pillows in rooms?
There are both quilts and pillows in all rooms. All you need to bring is a sleeping sheet or sleeping bag. You can also rent linen and towels if you do not want to bring your own.

Do I need to pre-book a room?
If you want to be sure to get the type of room you want, you should book in advance.

Do I have to share a room?
This depends on the type of room you book. If you want to be sure to have your own room (if you do not want to share), we recommend that you book in advance.

Can I borrow a crib?
Yes, we can supply both cribs and bedding. Please make a request for one when you book, so we can check availability.

Is there a drying room?
In the hotel, there are drying rooms in each wing. The youth hostel Keron has two drying rooms on the ground floor.

When is STF Abisko Turiststation open?
The station is open all year round, but with limited service during low season (for more information see opening hours). If you plan to arrive during one of these months, please contact us for more information.

Can I put up a tent in the area?
Yes, there is a camping area where you can put up your tent.

Adult member: From 200 SEK per night per person

Half price for children (6-15 years), children 0-5 years for free

Fees are payable at reception in the main building.

STF Aurora Sky Station

Do I need to pre-book my visit to STF Aurora Sky Station?

If you are planning a visit to STF Aurora Sky Station during the northern light season we recommend that you book in advance, since there are only a limited number of places available to the STF Aurora Sky Station Night Visit each night, and we sell out many nights.

Do I need to wear warm clothes when visiting STF Aurora Sky Station?
During the northern light season warm overalls and warm boots are included in the STF Aurora Sky Station Night Visit prices, but we recommend that you bring warm clothes to wear under the overalls. It is always better to be a bit too warm and be able to take off a layer of clothes, than to miss out on a northern lights display because you get so cold that you can’t stand outside any longer.

How long does it take to get to STF Aurora Sky Station using the chairlift?
It takes 20-40 minutes, depending on how many people get on or off whilst you are on the chairlift.

Can I take my dog on the chairlift?
It’s OK to have your dog with you if you feel safe to have the dog in an open chairlift, sitting beside you or on your lap. Keep in mind that dogs must always be on a leash in the National Park and that you are not allowed to bring your dog into STF Aurora Sky Station.

Can I pay by card at STF Aurora Sky Station?
Yes, we only accept card at STF Aurora Sky Station, we do not accept cash.

Reception, shop and rentals

When is reception open (manned)?
The receptions opening hours may vary. During high seasons you can count on it being open all day. For full details of opening hours call reception at +46 (0)10 190 2400.

Can I pay by card?
You can pay using Visa, Mastercard, Eurocard or Amex at all STF mountain & tourist-stations in Lapland. Currently we do not accept Diners.

I’ll arrive late, how do I get my key?
No problem, we put your key in an envelope with your name on it at reception. If you arrive after 17:00 during low season, you will find your key in a black mailbox outside the main entrance.

What can I buy in our shop?
In our shop ”Fjällboden” there is a wide and varied range of food – both fresh and dry products. The shop also stocks items for various kinds of outdoor activities as well as clothes, both for outdoor and indoor use.

You can find everything you need for a trip in the mountains, souvenirs, and other items. We have maps, mosquito repellents, mosquito hats, gas, and fuel for outdoor cooking.

What type of equipment can I rent at the shop?
In our rental selection you can find everything you need for a mountain trip: snow shoes, touring skis, boots and hiking sticks, hiking boots, field kitchens, tents, sleeping bags, etc.

Can I pre-order my equipment?
Of course! If you want to book equipment, just fill in details in our booking form and mail it to the shop at butik.abisko@stfturist.se

Can I send/receive packages in Abisko? / Can I rent equipment in Abisko and return it elsewhere?
You can send packages to/from Abisko. Read below for information on different scenarios:

• If you want to send a package from Abisko to Nikkaluokta, the staff in the shop can help you with that. We use a Swedish company called “Bussgods” for that service. Bussgods are only active during the skiing season, and summer hiking season, because the packages are sent with the local bus, and the bus only runs those periods. The price varies depending on the weight and size of the package, for more information see Bussgods.se (only in Swedish). Nikkaluokta charge 60 SEK for the storage of your package, you can pay the fee when you pick up the package.
• When renting equipment in Abisko and returning it in Nikkaluokta we also use Bussgods. The shop staff can help you arrange it. For this service you will be charged two extra days of rental plus the fee from Bussgods, and we will charge the extra fee when you pick up the equipment. When you pick up the equipment you will also receive a shipping label that you will have to attach to the package in Nikkaluokta.
• Do you want to send a package from Abisko to any other place in Sweden? The shop staff can help you, prices vary depending on the weight and size of the package.
• You can send a package to Abisko from any country/town, if you do so we will store the package until your arrival, but we appreciate if you try to send it so that it arrives close to your arrival date. We recommend using DHL, Bussgods (within Sweden) or Postnord.

You should also mark the package with an estimated pickup date. When the package arrives, we will place it in our luggage room, when you arrive you can just ask a receptionist to open the luggage room and then you can pick up you package. We are not responsible for packages stored in the luggage room. If you send your package with Postnord, it might end up at Godisfabriken Supermarket, located 2 km from us, in Abisko Östra. If this happens you have to pick it up personally, if this is not done within 14 days the package will be returned to sender.

Food and beverages

What does the breakfast buffet consist of?
Our KRAV-labeled breakfast buffet contains a variety of good things like, yogurt, culture-soured milk (Swedish alternative to yoghurt), porridge, waffles, various cereals, bread, several kinds of sandwich spreads and fillings, eggs, juices, coffee and tea.

What is included in a lunch package?
For lunch you [can] make your own sandwiches and take other items such as fruit, “trail mix” (raisins, peanuts and chocolate), chocolate bars and beverages. If you have your own thermos, you can also choose between different soups, coffee, tea, and hot chocolate.

Is there a restaurant?
At STF Abisko Turiststation you will find Restaurant Kungsleden that offers a three-course dinner every evening during high season. To secure a table and to get the best price, pre-book your dinner online.

Do I need to order or book a table in advance?
To ensure that you get a table at a time of your choosing, contact Restaurant Kungsleden ahead of arrival and book a desired time, you can reach the restaurant by phone on +46 (0)10 190 2403

Is there a children’s menu?
The restaurant has a children-friendly option on the a la carte menu. You can also get child-sized portions at half price (for children aged 6-15).

Are there highchairs?
The restaurant has several highchairs available

Can I cook my own food?
There are two well-equipped, self-catering kitchens in the youth hostel Keron where you can cook your own food. There is also a refrigerator in which you can store food and a smaller freezer where you can keep frozen food. Please mark all items with your room number and departure date.

Transfer

How do I get to the station from the train?
Book your train ticket to Abisko Turiststation. It is the second stop in Abisko if you are travelling from the South (first you reach Abisko Östra). When you get off the train, go under the railroad, then over the freeway and uphill, to reach us.

Other services

Can I store luggage at STF Abisko Turiststation?
Yes, luggage can be stored, free of charge, in our locked luggage room. Please make sure that the luggage you want to store is clearly marked with name, phone number and estimated pickup date. Labels are available in reception.

Can I receive letters and packages at STF Abisko Turiststation?
Yes, for a small fee, you can send or have both letters and packages sent here but you need to contact reception in advance. Letters can be picked up at reception; packages at Godisfabriken Supermarket in the village Abisko Östra. If you have packages sent to the supermarket, please note that they hold items for two weeks only. You must pick up all packages in person.

Can I bring my dog to Abisko?
Yes, it is OK to bring dogs.

Several rooms in our self-catering youth hostel Keron, as well as in some of the cabins and hotel rooms are allocated for this purpose. If you bring a dog, we recommend that you pre-book accommodation, as we have a limited number of suitable rooms and cabins in which dogs are allowed.

Can I have my dog in public areas?
Dogs are welcome in the lobby of the main building. In the youth hostel Keron dogs are allowed only in the downstairs areas, so please always use the lower entrance.

Do you have WiFi?
We have free Wi-Fi in public areas in the main building and in the youth hostel Keron.

Where can I park?
We have two parking lots close to Naturum, 50 meters from the main entrance, where our guests park free of charge. There is also parking at the train station, which we recommend for those who do not have accommodation at STF Abisko Turiststation.

Do you have a caravan campsite?
STF Abisko Turiststation is situated in a national park in which caravan camping is not permitted. The nearest caravan campsite is in Björkliden, 10 kilometers from Abisko.

Along the trail

How far is it between cabins (on the trail)?
As a rule, the distance between cabins is 10-20 km, some a little shorter and some a little longer. Abisko – Abiskojaure 15 km, Abiskojaure – Alesjaure 20 km, Alesjaure – Tjäktja 13 km, Tjäktja – Sälka 12 km, Sälka – Singi 12 km, Singi – Kebnekaise 14 km and between Kebnekaise and Nikkaluokta it is 19 km.

Can I buy maps of the area?
In the “Fjällboden” shop you can buy maps, supplies and other equipment. Map BD6 covers the Abisko-Nikkaluokta area.
There are also several great apps that give you access to a mountain map on your mobile. Take a look at the app Norrbotten Outdoor Map.

What about cellular coverage?
Most Swedish telecom operators have full coverage in Abisko and a few locations between Abisko and Abiskojaure. Coverage is non-existent at most places between Abisko and Kebnekaise. Do not count on always being able to make calls (or have access).

Emergency phones are available in all cabins but may only be used in case of emergency.

Can I pre-book beds in the mountain cabins?
You have to pre-book beds in the mountain cabins, and in doing so you will also receive an online discount. If you show up without a booking you might be denied accommodation.

How is the weather usually in the area?
For a comprehensive and up-to-date weather forecast, we recommend accessing the SMHI website or using a weather forecast app that’s available on your mobile phone. It is important to keep in mind that the weather can change very quickly in the mountains, so pack your backpack for varying weather conditions.

Can I pitch my tent along a trail?
You can put up your tent wherever you want along the trails, except in Abisko National Park. In the National Park there are 3 designated suitable tent sites; at STF Abisko Turiststation; near the bridge over Nissunjokk and near the cabins in Abiskojaure. If you want to pitch your tent close to the mountain cabin and make use of its services, you must pay a fee, giving you access to an outdoor shower and a self-catering kitchen, and the sauna if there is one available!

Can I go fishing in and around Abisko?
There are several fishing waters around Abisko. The shop “Fjällboden” sells fishing licenses and maps of fishing areas. For more information on fishing, see lansstyrelsen.se/norrbotten

Good to know when booking

During 27/9 2020 – 10/1 2021 Abisko is open with limited service. The reception and Store is open a few hours per day, and you can reserve a room at the hostel or one of our cabins.
