STF Salnö Gård

Who are we? We, Thore and Eva, Stockholm after running a company in an entirely different field. We found Salnö Gård for sale in the mid-nineties, and we loved what we saw. The buildings were in great need of refurbishment, but we could only see the opportunities hidden in them, the calm and silence, the clean air, the sound of the ocean and the gentle flaps of the eagle. Many years of refurbishments and new construction followed, all with the basic idea of preserving the existing atmosphere. Every step was guided by ecological thinking. The farm hotel is now carefully renovated up to a modern standard, in idyllic surroundings where small-scale is the order of the day.

The old farm’s main building was built in the middle of the 1800s, but the farm history goes back even further. The people here lived on small plots, sustained by fishing and hunting. In the 1920s, the farm was acquired by the Hedvig Eleonora and Oscar parishes in Stockholm. Many parishes were very poor, so the church worked to ensure that needy children could spend their summers on Salnö, to strengthen their health. This was obtained by sun, swimming and nutritious food. This continued for 70 years, after which there was no longer the same need for it. That’s when we came in, to carry on the business.

At Salnö Gård you stay in a quiet, rural environment, surrounded by fresh air and with magnificent nature just around the corner. The rooms are bright and spacious, and we deliberately choose natural materials as far as possible. To get just the right feeling, our beds are made with mangled sheets that have been dried outside in the fresh air. Breakfast is served in our magnificent Captain’s Hall, or weather permitting in our beautiful garden or the gazebo, for guests who wish to sit a little more secluded.

There is no staffed reception at Salnö Gård. Please call us on arrival on 0176–93 130, and we will meet you at the gate. Check-in between 14.00 – 20.00. Check-out before 10.00.
